A Handful of Pixie Love

Hello Everyone
When I knew I was to be Redlead’s Guest Designer I could not help but add a particular stamp to my list …. Pixie. This stamp, for me, is the one I most associate with Redlead.  It was seeing this stamp as the focal on artwork created by the amazing artist Audrey Hernandez  that I first came to learn of Redlead.
It might seem odd that this stamp would appeal to me so much when it is neither vintage nor shabby chic in style however, it has caught my eye since day one and I was so excited to have the opportunity to ink her up.
I have travelled down a more whimsical route than is my norm but how I enjoyed creating this Guest Designer piece.
To give you an idea of dimension, the canvas I used, a deep edge canvas is approx 4″x3″.

Redlead Stamps used:- Pixie and She Knows All Things Are Possible Labels
pixiegirllynnemoncrieffIn keeping with the tone of this Pixie girl I pushed aside my much loved muted paints and delved into colour! After paint, fabric and torn paper something was still missing yet I was well aware that much of the canvas would eventually be covered with the stamped elements so I couldn’t have anything that would detract too much but it needed a little bit of punch.  Looking at the dotty paper scraps I had utilised, polka dots came to mind but I didn’t own a Redlead stamp or stencil with this design (it is only Redlead stamps/stencils I can create with for each Guest Designer sample).  Not allowing this little fact to get in the way, I simply used the end of a foam brush.
Paper piecing is not something I do but as this little canvas was to signify me having fun outwith my comfort zone, I decided she would have a paper pieced dress and shoes.  Now looking at this, I wish I had followed the same path for her hat.phototwoTo add to the whimsy I ensured that her sweet little wings were fluttery by stamping onto handmade paper. I like viewing the wings from this angle.photothreeThis Pixie girl strikes me as being a sweet little soul so I paired her with this sentiment but something was missing at this stage. detial1Balloons popped into my head but on re-reading the sentiment, I set about hand-drawing some heart shaped balloons.heartdetailDid you know that Redlead recently re-vamped their on-line store (link at top of this post) – it is looking good.
Many thanks for visiting this post, your visits are always appreciated.
Wishes
Lynne

Oh, I don’t know… she looks vintage to me in one way – she reminds me of some of my favourite children’s book illustrations from the 1930s and 40s – enchanting! And what a lovely canvas you’ve created with her – the ice cream colours are so pretty.

I can’t believe it! I was going to leave my comment and just scrolled down to see comments left by other bloggers and lo and behold, Alison had taken the words out of my mouth! That little pixie is just like the illustrations from ’30s and ’40s children’s books that I love! I was going to make the very same comment. I adore everything about this make! I love your hand-drawn balloons; I really like the way the sentiment is mounted and your colour palette is adorable! Lovely, lovely work, Lynne – charming. Julie Ann xxx

Pixie immediately appealed to me, too, the first time I went to the Red Lead site but I don’t have her yet. 😦 They had another stamp called Dora I wanted, but they discontinued her. Anyway, I love what you have done here! The little heart balloons and polka dots are so cute!

I agree with Alison! The PIXIE seems vintage to me, as do all of a Red Lead Paperworks images. Just recently acquired her, myself! Itching to ink her up now! You have created a memorable canvas and have done Red Lead very proud! Bravo!

Oh I just love this little pixie and haven’t you show cased her beautifully on the canvas, and how creative to use the end of your brush for the dots, brilliant that was, and her paper pierced dress and shoes are wonderful, I haven’t tried that yet, its that darn fussy cutting :), thank for sharing her, I love it…
