She Knew No Fear (published in Somerset Studio)

What does Fearless mean for you? This was the question set by Somerset Studio. My mind brought up images of women, through the years who have battled against adversity and shown amazing courage.  I had the perfect image of a wild west woman. Studying the image, her stance said to me that she knew no fear which in turn became the title of this piece of art. Fast forward 6 months from when I submitted my entry and my copy of Somerset Studio arrives in the mail. My fabric collage is published! Thrilled only barely describes the joy I  feel! To have the people at Somerset Studio validate my entry means the world to me.
I definitely wanted “She Knew No Fear” on the collage which I stamped out with alphabet stamps onto curtain lining that had been dyed with tea and coffee.
This collage was quite  involved, lots of preparation required which I won’t go into except to say that it involved plenty of tea, coffee and walnut ink  to dye all the fabrics and a very messy kitchen where all this took place!  By coincidence, at the time I was considering my submission, my lovely friend Chris sent me some ticking which added to that pioneering, wild west feel to this piece, a breeze to dye and it frays beautifully. Along with the blue ticking from Chris, you will notice blue floral fabric. This was from another lovely friend, Jack who had sent me a mix pack of blue fabrics as a birthday gift last year.
It makes it extra special for me  that friendship played a part in the making of this fabric collage. Lynne x

I’d say it is the colour choice that doesn’t make it automatically look like something I’d make but the colours suited the image.
Thank You so much for the warm congratulations 🙂

My gosh, this blog world works in mysterious ways. You just left a comment on my blog via Pink Saturday (supersnooks13).I saw your work in the magazine when I received it last week, and aboslutely loved your piece, and here and find that it is YOU here that created it. I loved the whole theme of that magazine; a few pieces, yours included, inspired me to make a wall hanging which I have not had the courage to attempt yet. Hugs from Québec, Canada. xoxoxox
