When Spring Returns Once More (CI Challenge)

The first Crafty Individuals Challenge of 2012 is now underway, with the theme of Spring as chosen by Malcolm. All the relevant details for entering the challenge are available on Jean’s Crafty Individuals Blog (see link above) but please remember that you must include at least one Crafty Individuals product on your artwork.
Although I am sharing on my Blog you will not find this piece of artwork over at Jean’s blog as I was unable to create it in time. However, as the saying goes “Better late than never”.
I gathered several CI supplies:-
Die-cut frame
Portrait Tag
Image from People & Places.
I used the style of artwork I had published in Sew Somerset (Summer 2011) as a springboard for this Mixed Media wall hanging. The colours were inspired by the actual image of the little girl from the People & Places book and the portrait tag. I personally do not like yellow, its boldness frightens me but teaming it up with the lilac softened it and I found it more manageable.
The most used stamp was CI-015, a collage style stamp. A collage stamp is so useful as it can be used in so many ways. I used it on the die-cut to create a muted pattern but by repeatedly stamping onto painted cardstock I was able to cut out all the elements I wanted for my collage such as the lace and postal mark (used on the frame) Two little birds keeping the child company are from CI-329. By repeatedly stamping only the flower (CI-015) onto painted cardstock and fussy cutting I was able to create this floral border. Some of the flowers were tucked beneath the layer, diffusing them.A dried hydrangea blossom Another element from the collage stamp, a Porto postal mark layered onto the stamped lace.
The CI portrait tag co-ordinates beautifully with the image in the frame. The other side of the tag has another piece from CI-015, the style of a handwritten address peeking from above the  frame. That is my interpretation of Spring, pastel colours, flowers and birds and everything light and breezy, what will be your interpretation of the CI challenge theme? Over at the Crafty Individuals’ Blog you can view the team’s Spring inspired artwork and of course find all rules for entry. Have fun with this challenge.
