Take Flight!

Hello Everyone
I remembered that I still have two PaperArtsy samples to share, created with the new Eclectica Designs by Sara Naumann. For the little hanging I am sharing in this post, I used stamps from ESN15. You can view the original PaperArtsy blog post here relating to all the new releases of the ESN sets.
The substrate is a PaperArtsy Heavy White GreyBoard No. 9 Tag SizeonelynnemoncrieffAfter cutting the substrate in half, I simply turned one section on the vertical, this would become the lower section once the two pieces were attached but that is a long way off as before attaching the pieces there was lots of fun to be had in getting messy with paint.
Six Frescos colours were used:- Lake Wanaka, Beach Hut, Vanilla, Guacamole, Sherbert and Spanish Mulberry.  Those were the colours Sara wanted us to work with.
I used the paints for the background, including stamping with paint and painting cardstock which would be the stamping surface for the various stamped elements.
For the little birdie I sponged a mix of colours onto the cardstock to provide variation with his wing stamped again onto a different piece of painted cardstock.  twolynnemoncrieffIn this photograph you can see the texture in the background. The circle emblem was stamped with paint and there is more stamping with what I can only describe as a sort of elemental script which was stamped with Staz-on. Touches of Grungepaste was also applied and a scattering of white dots with a Sharpie paint pen which I also used to doodle a frame. Scraps of lace also create texture.
You no doubt guessed that the scallop border is the birdie’s wing cut in half!  Seriously, this birdie is a fabulous design because that little wing is so useful.threelynnemoncrieffHis little banner declaring that we take flight.fourlynnemoncrieffWhimsical always appeals to me yet it isn’t a design style I dabble with but I enjoyed the process of creating this little hanging, even if the six Fresco colours did intimidate me to begin with.
Thank You for your visit to this post which I have been able to share today because of technical issues with my blog post for That’s Crafty.
Now that is what I should be sharing before I say goodbye. New PaperArtsy products from stamps to Frescos and stencils, are now available to purchase from That’s Crafty.

Technical Issues

Hello Everyone
It is normal for me to share a sneak peek at my DT post for That’s Crafty on a Sunday however, due to what appears to be technical issues with e-mail, there will be no DT project from me over at the That’s Crafty blog today.
I am lucky to have friends you might be concerned, wondering why there is no DT post from me so I just wanted to explain, in so much as I can explain the situation.
Laura runs such a tightly packed blog that I don’t imagine my project will be slotted into another day of the week (each DT member has their assigned day for posting) but at the moment I have decided not to share what should be today’s artwork, just in case Laura wants to carry it over to next Sunday.
Have a lovely Sunday.

Please Don’t Break My Fragile Heart

Hello Everyone
A few months ago Stampington & co’s The Stampers’ Sampler had a challenge call for Heart of a Different Colour, looking for submissions for their annual Valentine’s Day challenge but asking us not to use the traditional red.
In the past two years when I have answered their Valentine’s challenge call for Tiny Hearts and Stitched Hearts I have submitted with a shabby chic/vintage style.  I did consider doing so this time around but wasn’t this the perfect opportunity to be bolder with the colour choice.  At the time of reading their challenge call it wasn’t so long that I had received the Dina Wakley Collaged Hearts from That’s Crafty so with the Collaged hearts and a few bottle of paints I set to work creating these two ornaments.
paperclayheartonelynnemoncrieffLet me declare, that personally, I do not like the colours I selected but that was the whole point for me.phototwoThe second heart ornament.
You will have guessed that they were both made from paperclay (available from That’s Crafty).  I never would have imagined I would get such a kick out of working with paperclay, especially for stamping into which is my favourite way of playing with it.
The sweet ribbon was a gift from my lovely friend Dorthe.paperclayhearttwolynnemoncrieffThe black brings a grungy appearance but it also aids in highlighting the impression of the stamp in the paperclay.
Thank You to The Stampers’ Sampler for publishing them, along with a canvas as a feature in the Winter 2015 issue.
Many Thanks to you for taking the time to visit this post. It has been a strange week on my Blog, from the bright and whimsical canvas for PaperArtsy, the shabbily romantic card for Redlead Paperworks and now these slightly grungy paperclay hearts!

Be Mine, You Sweet Thing

Hello Everyone
I was sure I would run out of time to squeeze in a Redlead Valentine creation but here I am with a card sample.
Redlead are amazing at word/sentiment stamps so when I received a bounty of Valentine stamps from them to play with I decided that I would use a selection of sentiments to create a background for a card with layers of stamping, paint and hints of texture.
Before sharing the card I want to tell you, at the time of drafting this blog post, Redlead have Valentine stamps on sale.  All of the stamps used on this card are also available as part of a Valentine stamp package which is also on sale at the moment.lynnemoncrieffforredleadFor the background I used the Be Mine and You are My Destiny sentiments and two of the hearts from the stamp sets below. redleadstampsAlongside those stamps I also used this set.
All Redlead stamps are mounted onto cling so they are ready to use straightaway.  The great thing is, I was able to use the stamp set below as one stamp by retaining the stamps on the plastic sheet they are stored on which I used as a substitute for an acrylic block.redleadstampstwoTexture is in the form of Grungepaste which I also stamped into while it was still wet, then I built up layers of Fresco, knocking back the layers of stamping.detailthreeIf you were aiming for the stamping to be legible then maybe best to not use Grungepaste or a light application and smooth it out with a palette knife.  I wanted the overall appearance of the card to be vintage yet with a slightly grungy appearance.
(The colours I used were soft pink, nougat and sepia (in the recess of my mind I must have been thinking about chocolate covered strawberries and nougat! Disappointingly the colours in the photographs are not a true representation.  The main photograph shows the truest colours).
backgroundA wooden heart and lace, along with a fragment of seam binding are the only additions to this card.
detailfourI might well squeeze in another Valentine before the 14th but in the meantime, many thanks for your visit.

Colour My World (@ PaperArtsy)

Hello Everyone
I am excited to share that this evening I have a new blog post over at PaperArtsy.
For this particular blog post I took the biggest step outwith my cozy shabby, vintage comfort zone and plunged myself into a world of colour. Not only did I work with two of the brand new ESN stamp sets which are a bit more whimsical in style than my usual and I also got to work with brand new Fresco Chalk Acrylic paint colours! Now, I know for many of you, working with colour is second nature but I will be perfectly honest and declare that I did have a moment of …. Oh no, what do I do with all this colour?! The answer … take a deep breath and embrace it.  So that is exactly what I did.
Visit HERE and you will read how I created my own paint colour recipes and why I fell in love with the bird stamp from ESN15.  This is just a wee sneaky peek of what is a large project. paperartsycanvaslynnemoncrieff
A few final words about the latest PaperArtsy challenge, Paint.  I hope my latest PaperArtsy artwork will inspire you to enter this challenge.
Many thanks for your visit to this blog post.
