The First Noel

For the November Challenge at Crafty Individuals the theme is Winter Frost

Here are a few words from Jean, about the challenge.
Effie is in charge of November, and has picked the lovely theme of ‘Winter Frost’. So I guess anything winteryish with a touch of snow or glitter would be perfect for this theme. We do hope you will join in with something wintery or christmassy!

To enter this month’s Crafty Individuals Challenge please put together your chosen project, which must include at least one Crafty Individuals product please, then post your Challenge project on your Blog, before the end of the month, and include a link back to this Blog. Leave a link in the URL box displayed in this post to take us directly to your Challenge project, which will then appear on this Blog as a thumbnail image – so we can all see your wonderful arty work. If you don’t have a blog we are happy to accept emailed image entries too.

At the end of the month Effie will set about choosing five lucky participants, each of whom will win a CI rubber stamp of their choice, and don’t forget that as per usual, once you have linked in your creation, you can also claim a lovely 25% discount code to use on anything you purchase from the CI Website, which will be valid to use until the 10th of December.
For my team sample I gathered my Crafty Individuals winter/Christmas themed stamps, mulling over what to work with when it was decided for me as soon as I spied a small canvas lying beside a Prima Relics and Artifacts wing, lying beside a stamp I already had attached to an acrylic block.  All coming together as a Christmas ornament.The sizing of Noel  (from CI -446, a recently released Elements set) made it the perfect word to fit into the canvas recess with only the addition of some subtle stamping in the form of a music score stamp, with a light scattering of mica flakes before sealing. I like to mix my metallics, something I was told NOT to do when I studied Art & Design at Secondary School. I will happily combine gold with silver, with brass, with bronze, etc!   I worked with layers of Champagne, Pure Platinum, a gold and a brass and a bronze bringing it all together with a dash of white.  A pity that the shimmer on the wing hasn’t translated to the photographs.
Despite all the shimmer of the various paints, the actual frame was looking too flat so I stamped into clear texture paste.  I was much happier with the extra texture and it fitted perfectly for the style and overall feel I was aiming for.If you are in the middle of winter themed artwork, either Christmas cards or gifts or it could be Mixed Media or textile art. Whatever it is, if it is Winter Frost and follows the challenge guidelines then why not join the fun!
