The Trees

Sharing another sample made for Crafty Individuals (for HOCHANDA show).
This sample, which is a substrate of a That’s Crafty white/greyboard panel, sees me using one of Crafty Individuals new stamps,CI-460

The same trees were stamped onto Infusions stained book pages twice, tearing into panels, with a scrap piece of stained book text in the centre, with that lovely Whispers in the Wind stamp from CI-209.
That lovely piece of stylised leaf applique is a piece cut from beautiful lace panel gifted to me by my friend Sharon.  I stained it with Infusions. The other textiles were also stained, they look as though it could be Rusty Car they were stained with.

Book pages have been a constant for me, really since I started stamping.  Even with this detailed stamp, the text peeks through and I so love the extra layer that brings to a project.

Literally, a scrap of corrugated cardboard – no scrappy piece is safe from my grasp!

Sweet Dreams (Willow & Sage)

One of the surprises in 2016 was being published in Stampington & Co’s Willow and Sage, a magazine devoted to homemade bath/beauty products.
Before I began stamping, I enjoyed blending my own aromatherapy essential oils and one day, I would really like to try making lip balms, soaps, etc but that time isn’t for now so imagine my delight when opportunity knocked on my door (actually, my laptop!) when I was approached to create packaging idea for this magazine which they, thankfully liked and published (posts can be seen HERE and HERE).  In the Winter 2017 issue  I was once again grateful to find myself published, this time taking the packaging idea further by making lavender sachets.
The springboard for this idea was, believe it or not, packaging!  When my friend Vickie mailed a gift to me, inside the box was some interesting white fabric style paper, I can only describe it as not dissimilar to tumble dryer laundry sheets but firmer and a generous size.  I was sure it would contain lavender buds but also allow the scent to emit.  I managed to make five sachets in total.
First, the bundle of three, tied together with re-cycled sari silk chiffon ribbon.  Maybe I am easily pleased but there is so much joy in knowing you have the most perfect stamp for an occasion.  I remembered the Lavender stamp from Character Constructions Mad Tea Party No. 8, it could not be more perfect to stamp onto the re-cycled tag which I painted with Gessso, with a small sprig of lavender as a sweet detail.

This is the trio of sachets.

Willow and Sage is not a stamping magazine but I knew the sachets needed something, the fabric paper was too plain and yet I didn’t want to stamp anything too dominant.  It suddenly dawned on me, I had Stampington & Co stamps designed by Christine Adolph.  I used Trims 4 images


For one of the sachets, a lovely scrap of grosgrain ribbon stitched to the sachet, allowing the lavender sprig to be held in place.

All the stamping was done before filling the sachets with the dried lavender buds.

I wanted a subtle effect to the stamping and the timing was just right as my ink pad was becoming dry and ordinarily I would have re-inked but it gave me the subtle effect i wanted.

This sachet could be presented in the white paper pocket and when removed, it can be suspended from the loop, formed from grosgrain ribbon.

It seems cheeky to try and schedule blog posts when I am struggling so much to keep up with all of you wonderful people. My concern is, if I step away for a designated period of time, that time will lengthen and then I would probably never return to keeping the blog active.

Art Girl

I am sure you can relate, I do not like anything going to waste, so when I had some of the frame elements, left over from creating shrine samples for That’s Crafty, I laid them aside knowing I could continue the fun later.
With That’s Crafty now re-stocking, selected Character Constructions stamps, I thought it would be fun to play with some of the Paris Flea stamps and give this art girl a cosy home.  I’ve played with Paris Flea many times since receiving the collection last year, it is fun to mix ‘n’ match and bring life to the paper dolls with your imagination.

All details of this project can be seen HERE, including specific stamps and how I formed the paper doll element.  I also sneaked in one of my Affirmations!  I still have more to write about the Affirmations but have to say, heartfelt thanks for the reaction, I never imagined I would ever have stamps and then to have them so warmly received, it has been overwhelming.

Royal Blood (The Stampers’ Sampler)

This collection of six cards, appears in the Jan/Feb/March issue of The Stampers’ Sampler. 
It meant so much to me that they published all six in a feature over three pages.
All stamps are PaperArtsy LPC and all feature Infusions, Royal Blood.
They are some of the oldest LPC stamps but for me some were inked up for the first time for this collection.

Some rusty wire coils.  The colour of the rusty wire worked so well against the Royal Blood Infusions.

It’s no surprise that scraps were utilised throughout the cards such as little stamped elements added here and there.

Mop-up papers bring texture.  I stamped onto them, even though the stamped images are not crisp, it still brings something extra to the effect.
A wisp of coppery fabric.

I liked the watercolour effect achieved.  If you are interested, it is actually watercolour paper I worked with for the backgrounds and stamped focals,  HP and NOT.

On this card, I also used Infusions with a That’s Crafty Dinky Stencil, creating a hint of pattern on the base of the card

More scrappy mop-ups and another piece of that lovely copper fabric which lovely Dorthe gifted to me.

I like that texture of the mop-up paper (kitchen paper towel) adds dimension even when stamped upon.

It’s all about the layers – this stamped piece of mop-up paper layered onto the stamped focal.

She Hath Wings (Somerset Studio)

To start this new week I thought I’d share something which I made last year, submitted to Somerset Studio’s colour challenge, the colour they stipulated was Olive.  I was so thrilled to see this published in Somerset Studio Jan/Feb 2017.
Although I also submitted other projects, this was the first project made because I knew I wanted to use the stunning Character Constructions stamp, Inner Child No. 7 , a great favourite of mine.
Is she a friend to the birds, who are content with her sitting amongst them, or is it possible that she is one of them.  Some say she has the voice of the sweetest nightingale.

A canvas board was the main substrate for this piece, with That’s Crafty MDF hearts.
The Character Constructions stamp is the focal, stamped onto a piece of leftover paper, painted with PaperArtsy Fresco and one of their glazes providing a sheen.  You can just about see the sentiment “she hath wings”,  a beautiful stamp, available from Redlead Paperworks.
All of those branches are fussy cut, yes, my hands were not so happy with me!  You can find this branch on Character Constructions Queen of Tarts Plate 1

I allowed them to overhang, to give them impression that she really is nestled in the branches of the tree.
In all honesty, I am not sure I achieved the faux bark effect which I was aiming for on the That’s Crafty mdf hearts.  Each has a stamped egg layered onto it, the stamped image has a thin layer of ICE Resin.

Scraps of resin paper also appear layered behind the heart and again on this piece of drifwood, layered with the Home Sweet Nest sentiment.  Such a sweet sentiment from Character Constructions.

That’s Crafty @ HOCHANDA: Sneaky Peek II

Sharing another sneaky peek of one of my journal pages, a completed journal was made as a sample for That’s Crafty’s HOCHANDA appearances on Friday 17th March @ 7 am and 11 am. The actual blank journals will be available for purchase along with new stencils and acrylic shapes, plus some other new products.
