Creative Girl Tote Bags (Somerset Life)

Turning the clock back to the Jul/Aug/Sept 2017 issue of Somerset Life when I had a trio of Creative Girl tote bags published.
The bags were made in answer to a challenge call for canvas bags, something which I’ve enjoyed altering since I began to rubber stamp.  They are literally a blank canvas for any style.
Red Lead stencils which are listed in the Supplies within the article  and stamps from PaperArtsy JOFY and also from Red Lead and Paperbag Studios.
Each page was decorated on both sides.  The instructions are within the article but it’s no mystery to see that the bags were pained (PaperArtsy Frescos)

Normally I like to add bits of this ‘n’ that but that wasn’t the style I had in mind for the totes, I wanted the stamps and stencilled sentiments to be the focus.Side two
This bag simply had a black re-cycled silk sari ribbon bow.Flipped over to the rear side and “artful spirit” is the stencilled sentiment.It was fun to work on the bags especially as my colour choice isn’t or I should say, wasn’t as they were made some many months ago. Being published is obviously the cherry on the icing, on the cake!

Autumn Leaves (Stampington’s Take Ten)

I have so much catching-up to do but instead of putting pressure on myself to schedule regular blog posts, I’ve realised that the sensible route is to ease myself in and see where it takes me.
I cannot explain why but 2017 found me not to be in cardmaking mode.  There I was, routinely submitting card collections to The Stampers’ Sampler and Take Ten and suddenly, the brakes were on.  It wasn’t a conscious decision on my part, just “one of those things” and it would be silly to force myself to make cards when the desire isn’t great at the moment.
I share that only because it meant that when I had cards published, it somehow meant more to me (if that were at all possible because I take no publication for granted).  I had a surprise in finding a wee card collection in Take Ten..  
Each card features a beautiful leaf stamp either from Red Lead Paperworks Autumn Beauty Leaves or Darkroom Door Word Block Stamp Wilderness or Leaves Stamp Set

I had some pieces of handmade paper which I had been treasuring for a long time and it was really this paper which ultimately set me on the path to make this collection.

With the pretty embedded petals, which I didn’t want to obscure, it worked perfectly with the Take Ten criteria of speedy cards as I didn’t need to concern myself with a background, other than some splatters.

A stamped word and fragments of tree bark and suchlike were the only additions to each card.

Autumn seems such a long way off in my corner of the world where there is still a Winter to battle through!!!

Finding My Way (Somerset Studio Gallery)

When I was an Ambassador for RELICS & ARTIFACTS, Cat Kerr who was a previous Ambassador, came up with the idea that each Ambassador create a project featuring an R&As oyster shell and incorporate her stamps, other than those specifications, we could create any project working on any substrate, I chose a piece of driftwood.
The oyster shell obviously brought to mind the ocean which made me ponder messages in bottles, tossed into the ocean.  This set my mind thinking of how no matter the stage we are in life, there are times when we are finding our way.  I used Cat’s stamp “Finding My Way” to bring this element to my assemblage.  It could be that the message is written and tucked inside the bottle, a plea to finding the way in life or it could be viewed that the person writing the message has found contentment in that they are at peace knowing they are finding their way, a sense of wisdom washing over them as represented by the addition of the pearls, a flow of pearls of wisdom.  Another of Cat’s stamps was incorporated, a compass which I stamped onto a That’s Crafty acrylic shape.  I also used ICE Resin throughout and Tints which brought the exact notes of colour I wanted to achieve.
We each, separately mailed our projects to Cat, who would mail them to Stampington & Co. We didn’t know in what format the projects would take or which magazine would want to publish them, either as a group or individually.  It was a lovely surprise when the editor of Somerset Studio Gallery contacted me for my assemblage to appear as a Spotlight within Somerset Studio Gallery Winter issue.

The ICE Resin simplified adhering the elements, aside from providing the appearance I wanted on all the elements.The bottle actually has contents but it didn’t trouble me that they are obscured by the treatment I gave to the outside of the bottle and by the resin paper (stamped tissue paper).It was important that this assemblage had a tactile quality to it just as the ocean does with the juxtaposition of smooth against rough, which is also symbolic of life.Fragments of vintage lace reminded me of netting and the Tints used for ICE Resin enabled me to bring colour to the oyster shell as did a dash of PaperArtsy Infusions.
This was a unique project to be part of and even though our projects did not appear side by side, it was still special to work on this project and subsequently for it to appear within Somerset Studio Gallery, a publication which I hold in high esteem.

Delicate Wings (@ That’s Crafty)

Apologies for taking so long before wishing A Happy New Year.  Here’s to 2018 being a year where it brings you wonderful times and opportunities and of course, an abundance of creativity!
Today is my first 2018 post for That’s Crafty, at the shiny new Blog, it is looking so fresh over there.  I am sharing a project featuring quite a few That’s Crafty’s own products, they are continually releasing fabulous new products which I genuinely want to craft with, not through D.T. loyalty but because I enjoy reaching for the products.
