Let Me Call You Cupcake

Hello Everyone
I know, St. Valentine’s Day has now passed by but I had this post drafted so decided to go ahead and share it with you anyway. To wait another 12 months seems an awful long time!
When I do vintage it is usually vintage, meaning faded colours, torn and tattered lace but this time I am dipping my toes into a slightly more Retro vintage feel for a fun Valentine cupcake!
Redlead Paperworks not only stock amazing stamps and stencils, they also have an abundance of collage sheets covering different themes and styles. When I received some of their Valentine Cupcake collage sheets (link below) I knew they would be fun to play with even though I would be working with slightly bolder colours to what I prefer.
Redlead Supplies
Cupcake Collage Sheet No. 10 Valentine Cupcakes
Ancestors Collage Sheet No. 8
Valentine Rubber Stamp – Little Labels
Valentine Rubber Stamp – I Came To Enquire
Valentine Rubber Stamp – Romanticism In Art
A cupcake on stand makes this a fun alternative to a Valentine card. Tucked into a wooden frame, given a lovely Liquid Glass treatment, are a couple from one of Redlead’s collage sheets. I wanted dimension and fun elements on this cupcake, such as the pompom trim.
A gathering of stamped images declaring their adulation for one another.
I played around with one of the Redlead stamps to create my own sentiment.
All cupcakes should have a topping – here, a small wooden heart painted and then some Liquid Glass.
Now, I would say that needs to be a line drawn under all things Valentine!
Many thanks for your visit.

Hello Everyone
Squeezing this post in before I return on Sunday with my That’s Crafty post.
This card collection came about after making a card for DT post for That’s Crafty (after receiving the Dina Wakley Collaged Hearts stamp set to play with), HERE. As is often the way of it with me, I then continued to use all the stamps in the set and decided to submit to Stampington & Company’s Take Ten (they appear in the Winter 2016 issue). So really I have Laura from That’s Crafty to thank for this card collection being published! If I wasn’t on her DT I wouldn’t have received those stamps and then gone on to make cards to submit!
The first card is the one that began the collection.Simple, simple cards with stark colour palette of white/winter white, black and red.
The post at That’s Crafty or the feature in Take Ten explains how I achieved the borders.
Minimal embellishing, a scrap of ticking and vintage buttons. I really wanted the hearts to do all the talking!
So there we have it, simplicity in supplies and composition. I always prefer more involved projects but creating with the intention of submitting to Take Ten is a good exercise in the discipline of paring back card design to meet the ten minute criteria. When submitting to Take Ten I have a different mindset than when I create to submit to The Stampers’ Sampler, even though there are times when submissions to Take Ten ultimately make an appearance, due to the Editor’s selection process, in Sampler.
Thank you to Devon Warren and her team for publishing this collection and thank you for visiting and enduring all the recent heart themed artwork I’ve been sharing!

Sparkle, Glisten, Gleam (The Stampers’ Sampler)

Hello Everyone
In this post I am sharing one of the cards I have published in the latest issue of The Stampers’ Sampler, a card I submitted to the Holiday Happenings Challenge Call.
If you are a regular visitor then you probably recognise the stamp on this card, She Loves Snowflakes , as I have already shared a wee hanging with this stamp, HERE.
This card has a very simple colour palette of Kraft, winter white and black but it also has lots of sparkle and shimmer!
Stencilled snowflakes with one of my all time favourite mediums for artwork relating to this time of the year, which can be found here at That’s Crafty, Maimeri Iridescent Paste. This is the paste I have been using on all the mittens I’ve made recently.
The sparkle appears in different forms, some I cannot now remember (!) but there is definitely Crystal Glamour Dust (DecoArt), Cosmic Shimmer Vintage Mica Flakes (both available from That’s Crafty) and a dash of vintage glass glitter.
The sentiments are from another wonderful Redlead stamp, HERE, Stamp Some Tape:- Snowflakes and Christmas Greeting. It is such a brilliant idea of two stamps in a set with the idea that you can stamp your own tape. So one design is snowflakes and the other is Christmas Greeting. Click the link to discover what they actually look like. With the Christmas Greeting stamp it means you can stamp it to appear as a piece of tape or as I did for this card, stamp onto cardstock (Kraft painted with Gesso) and then cut into strips. It looks as though I still have a fair few festive posts to share with you. I might hold the more winter themed posts to share into the New Year. Funny how to my mind, once Christmas is over and done with, I seem to think it has to be the end of all winter artwork, moving in my mind onto more Spring like style or Valentine’s yet it will still be the middle of winter in my part of the world!
(At the time of drafting this blog post, Redlead had a Christmas Greetings discount code of 30%)

She Is Merry & Bright

Hello Everyone
Don’t be thinking I will be inundating you with festive posts between now and the 25th of December but every now and then, it is possible I will be sharing something with a hint of Christmas/winter to it.
I count myself very lucky to receive stamps to play with and the lovely Chris and Sharon from Redlead continue to be so supportive. In this post I am sharing a simple wooden ornament, which unusually for me, I decided to work with a pop of colour to bring some festive cheer!
This sweet stamp is Warm Winter Wishes. Actually it is two stamps for the price of one because there is the main stamp which is the girl and also a lovely sentiment stamp, you guessed it, Warm Winter Wishes (which I didn’t use on this ornament).Shabby white brush strokes to break up the painted red background with the sweet child stamped onto tissue paper before adding a flurry of vintage mica flakes along with a touch of stencilling.
Flip the ornament over to reveal the sentiment, She Is Merry & Bright
Shimmer and sparkle and a cluster of jingle bells and a snowflake charm tied with a scrap of ticking fabric.
I hope your days are merry and bright at the moment.
If you are interested, Redlead recently released their Christmas stamps for 2015 along with stencils and an array of wooden ornaments, charms etc.
Many thanks for your visit to this scheduled post.

Hello Everyone
Another Halloween piece to share with you featuring a stamp I have already played with for this Halloween, HERE. I so wanted to ink up Mr Poe once again, this time for some playtime with a Calico Crafts Parts Halloween Shrine, MDF Flying Bat Colony and MDF mini insects, decidedly creepy in themselves!
This might sound really dark and sinister, which isn’t really where my brain is at (!) but for this shrine I wanted a sense of claustrophobia, as though Poe is lying in a tomb and around him the insects silently crawl, spinning their webs and leaving their trails and above the bats swoop low on a midnight sky, illuminated by the golden glow cast by gaslight.
I decided from the outset that I wanted Poe himself to be set far back, I didn’t want him to appear as a stamped and fussy cut shape, I suppose I wanted to work with the depth of the shrine. After preparing the base board with paints I stamped Poe, then stamped again, this time onto tissue paper which I layered onto the first image. Onto this I applied the same paints and spray used throughout, before adding the decorative stamping.
The shrines have such great depth, lots of room to play around in, so I sneaked in another MDF shape, this time a corner cobweb.
The detailing on those insects is amazing! With the paints and spray I achieved a mottled effect on all the MDF surfaces.
Included in the shrine kit is the MDF word, Spooky, the same as etched onto the shrine itself but I decided to keep it aside for another project.
This was the first time I had worked with a shrine (previously I had worked with one of their MDF shells) and although I was impressed with the shell, for some reason I was expecting a slight battle on my hands to assemble the shrine as often such items can be less than perfect when trying to fit them together. I had nothing to worry about, a touch of Gel Medium was all the adhesive I needed.Poe is from Oxford Impressions Haunted and the decorative stamp is from the Wicked set, available directly from Oxford Impressions and in the U.K. from That’s Crafty.
Many thanks for taking the time to visit this post.
A final word ….. Sweet Dreams!!!
