The Ancient Woods

Hello
Today, over at the That’s Crafty blog, I found myself taking a gentle walk into The Ancient Woods where I stumbled across a cottage, where a Wise Woman spoke to me of her friends from nature who while away the hours of the day with her.

The complete project, this is only a peek, can be seen HERE
Hope you are having a lovely Sunday.

Silken Wings (Somerset Apprentice)

Hello
This post relates to Autumn last year when I had an assemblage published in Somerset Apprentice (Autumn 2016).  Although I made an appearance in this magazine once before, as a “From The Pros”, this was my first article.
Somerset Apprentice has a different approach to other Stampington titles, with stepped-out projects, lots of detail photos, they are really tutorials.
This project was one of my most rewarding to work on, enjoying the creating and gathering of textures although always (and I do mean always) there are many changes I would make to it.
The assemblage has made an appearance from Stampington sharing it but I never got around to posting it until now.
A few shout-outs for some of the fabulous products:-
That’s Crafty – white/greyboard panel and Dinky Stencil
Darkroom Door  Wings stamp set
Redlead Paperworks – Silken Wings

What has struck me, is that I do not take the pretty, feminine route with nature,  I enjoy exploring neglect, derelict almost industrial, trying to evoke a sense of an area which is broken down, dis-used buildings with rusted metal and broken masonry, where a wildflower might be seen to burst through the cracked concrete ground.
In my introduction for the stepped-out project in Somerset Apprentice, I talk about this.

threelynnemoncrieffsilkenwings
This Dinky Stencil (my preferred way of working is only randomly stenciling here and there and not actually working with the stencil as a whole) was an immediate favourite when I received it and continues to remain a much-loved stencil.
fourlynnemoncrieffsilkenwings
The gathering of textures was important for the feeling I was trying to convey, even the smallest fragment brings “something” to the piece as a whole.
fivelynnemoncrieffsilkenwings
It will all sound rather “deep” but the piece of tree bark symbolises the loss of trees, pushed aside to pave way for residential or industrial areas.  Those boundaries on the edges of towns and cities where once,  there would have been an abundance of natural habitat for wildlife.  I see it where I live, it is a landscape in contrast to that which I remember from childhood.

Thank you so much for your visit.  It feels good to be scheduling some regular blog posts and catching-up with projects that are getting to be months and months old!

To Dare

Hello
Well, today’s post is in sharp contrast to the ice cream colours of the paper dolls I shared this past week, today we are firmly in distressed, aged, heavy on the texture type of mode!
This is a That’s Crafty Arch Upright which was made as a sample for one of their recent HOCHANDA shows.  The regularity of me sharing Uprights is testament to how much I love to work with them.  This is a full size Upright which is an incredibly generous size.

French Kiss (The Stampers’ Sampler)

Hello!
Today is the penultimate Valentine paper doll.
As with the previous posts this week, the paper doll comprises Character Constructions stamps and for this project, a That’s Crafty white/greyboard heart, which has become a fun piece as I adhered it to a painted and stamped wooden stick.
She is approx 4″ x 11″
one
A Dinky Stencil was used on the heart, you can just about make out the design.
two
It’s such a lovely stencil, this is the link HERE, TC038

This LOVE banner was made from the individually stamped letters (from Paris Flea set), forming it into a shabby banner. (The V appears to be shy!)  She also holds an envelope.five
Could that sweet flower be a wrist corsage from her sweetheart?

Thank you so much for staying with me for this week of daily posts.  One more paper doll and then we will return to normal!

Love Letters (The Stampers’ Sampler)

Hello!
Character Constructions Valentine paper doll number 3 to share today.
The face of this particular paper doll stamp (from Paris Flea collection) has such expression. You just know she is a mischief maker!
This is approx 4″ x 11.5″
one
A That’s Crafty white/greyboard heart with heart Dinky Stencil.

It’s fun to mix and match the Character Construction stamps.  I gave her a hat with a sweet little floral detail added.
three
This wooden word was the perfect detail to create balance.
four
The stamped crinoline is made into a skirt with the addition of lace and pretty trim.

Sweet messages hang from her wrist

Thank you so much for your visit. I just thought that there seems to be an air of negativity in the world at the moment that a few photographs of paper doll projects would lighten the atmosphere, even if only for a few moments.
I hope you are enjoying spending time with those young lady paper dolls.

Love – A Simple Word (The Stampers’ Sampler)

Hello!
This week, I have decided to bring some fun and whimsy to my blog.  I have scheduled a post for each day.
The reason for such activity, I received the recent issue of The Stampers’ Sampler and so happy to see, amongst other bits ‘n’ pieces, some Character Constructions paper dolls, each with a declaration of love.
Catherine Moore’s stamps have the most amazing details and I sort of went to town on each project, detail overload!
The six paper dolls work as a collection but when I was making them, I divided them into two groups.  One of the dolls I am sharing today is from the group which features a fabulous That’s Crafty heart adhered to a wooden stick onto which the paper doll rests.
This project is approx 4″x11″… quite tall!
onelynnemccstampers
This is one of my oldest Character Constructions stamps, actually one of my oldest stamps as it was bought early on when I really started to get into stamping.  Of course there is fun in stamping and yes, even I am coming around to fussy cutting (!) but the most fun is assembling and adding details.
two
A stamped bow adorns her head with a tiny detail made from some ribbon. She holds flowers in one hand and a precious Valentine in her arm.  Can we guess that she is going to visit her Valentine or maybe this is the Valentine gift she has received!
three
Behind her, you can see that I stencilled the lovely Dinky Stencil  Long Hearts Background from That’s Crafty, stencilling with clear texture paste then painting with Frescos.
four
Peeking from beneath her lace skirt is a crinoline (from Paris Flea No. 3)
five
The wooden stick painted with Frescos and stamped with a Redlead Paperworks stamp (from this set).  The sweet, sparkly heart is from my lovely friend Dorthe.
six
With this collection I have decided to not be apologetic about the shabby style of them.  Most of what I work on these days sees me step further away from shabby chic but there are times when it just seems the perfect fit and if I am honest, when I am making something, I never approach it with the conscious thought of this will or will not be shabby, grungy or whatever, it all just happens.
Many thanks for your visit.

Winter Wonderland … A Resounding Silence (Somerset Studio Gallery)

Hello
Appearing in Somerset Studio Gallery is such a wonderful way to end the year. This assemblage is another piece I am lucky enough to have published as a Spotlight, in this issue.
Tree – Crafty Individuals CI-450
Sentiment – PaperArtsy ESN
Dinky Stencil – That’s Crafty Snowflake Background
I was trying to convey peace, stillness, on a winter day with the low winter sun dancing on the frosted landscape, the only sound the crunch underfoot on the snow impacted ground.ssglynnemcipanelTo heighten the natural and organic feel to the panel, the tree was stamped onto some mop up/under paper which does result in a less than perfect stamped impression but for this, it was exactly what I was aiming for.
When I first started to stamp, I would have thought a less than perfect stamped impression was good for only one thing, being tossed into the rubbish bin but now, there is great freedom and sense of satisfaction when a perfectly imperfect impression actually adds more to a project.ssglynnemcitwoThat’s Crafty greyboard snowflakes, oh I just love them.  The snowflake brings the eye towards the textural layers.
With the colour palette silvery white with mere hints of gold, this representing the golden glow of the winter sun.ssglynnecithreeThank you to anyone who takes the time to visit, especially at this time of the year when there is great demands on your time….so Thank You!

Angelic Winter Wishes (Somerset Studio Gallery)

Hello
A wonderful way to close out the year is making an appearance in Somerset Studio Gallery. I am so thankful to have multiple pieces in this issue, a few are festive/winter related so I thought I would squeeze in a couple between now and the 25th.  I will be back-tracking, after Christmas, to share artwork that I haven’t caught up with as yet, some going as far back as the summer!
Supplies used:-
Redlead Paperworks Sentiment
That’s Crafty Dinky Stencil Snowflake
Sandra Evertson Relics and Artifacts direct from Sandra Evertson or from That’s Crafty.
